Google Ads + tracking
Pay for customers, not button taps.Google Ads for service businesses in Birmingham, Alabama.
I'm Connor Hand. The first thing I check in any Google Ads account is what it counts as a lead. It's often a tap on the phone number or a click on a page, and Google's bidding goes looking for more of those. I fix the tracking first, then run the ads.
From $350/month for my first five Birmingham clients. Flat fee, never a percentage of your ad spend, and every account stays in your name.
WHAT GOOGLE ADS COUNTED AS CONVERSIONS
One landscaping campaign · Oct 1–14, 2026
- Call-button taps SOFT9
- Landing-page click SOFT1
- Form fills LEAD3
- Tracked calls LEAD3
10 of the 16 were taps and a page click. With automatic bidding on, Google goes looking for more of those.
FIXED Now only form fills and calls count as conversions.
What I find
The ads aren't always the problem. Often it's the counting.
Real findings from lawn care and landscaping accounts I manage, October 2026. Names left out on purpose.
The form tracking was broken, so for 28 days Google Ads didn't count a single form fill from the website. If anyone filled out that form, the ads never knew.
About a third of one campaign's spend went to people searching for plant nurseries, suppliers and competitors by name. Those searches are blocked now.
Which ads to keep, where the budget goes, whether marketing works at all. When the count is wrong, all of it is. Fixing it can make the numbers look worse for a month. That's the honest starting point.
How it works
Five steps, no surprises.
Nothing changes in your account until you've seen the plan and the price.
- STEP 1A 20-minute call
What you sell, where customers come from now, and what you spend.
- STEP 2Access, not passwords
You add me as a manager on your Google Ads, analytics and website. You stay the owner of all of it.
- STEP 3A short written plan
I check what's actually being counted as a lead, then send a plan with a flat price.
- STEP 4Tracking first
Forms and calls get counted properly before the budget moves. Then the campaigns get built around the jobs you want.
- STEP 5One check-in a month
Real leads and what each one cost. Tell me which became jobs and you get cost per job too. Not clicks, not impressions.
Founding rate
Priced low on purpose, for my first five Birmingham clients.
I'm building a client list here, and introductions from happy clients are worth more to me than margin right now.

The rate holds as long as you stay.
You get the exact number before you commit.
Flat, simple, and yours
- A flat monthly fee, never a percentage of your ad spend.
- Setting up and fixing your conversion tracking is part of the fee.
- No hourly billing. Bigger projects, like a website, get a flat price before you commit.
- Every account stays in your name, and the ad budget goes on your own card.
- Three months to start, because the first month is mostly fixing the count. Then cancel any month.
Other work, same rules
- Websites. Fast, simple sites built around a quote or booking form that's tracked from day one. Flat project price.
- AI Visibility Audit. Whether ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI name your business, and what to fix. $1,500 flat, 7 days. See the audit.
- Bigger budgets. Spending $20k a month or more on ads? That's Tiny Mage Growth.
Fit
Who this is for, and who it isn't.
- You run a local service business around Birmingham: lawn and landscaping, home services, trades, clinics, that kind of thing.
- You're paying for Google Ads now, or you're ready to.
- One new customer is worth a few hundred dollars or more to you.
- You want the real number, even when it's worse than the one you're used to.
- You want organic social media posts. On social, I only do paid ads.
- You want guaranteed rankings, leads or AI mentions. Nobody honest can promise those.
- Your budget is too small for ads to pay off yet. I'll tell you that on the call instead of taking your money.
- You won't share access to the ad account. The work runs on it.
Who you'd work with
One person, based in Birmingham.
I'm Connor Hand. I've spent six-plus years running paid media and analytics at a Birmingham ad agency and a national tech company, building the reports executives used to decide where the budget went. I started Tiny Mage in 2024.
I have a marketing degree from the University of Alabama, and I've worked as a fractional CMO (a part-time marketing director), including running a brand's agency search. Now I do the same work for local businesses, at a size that fits them.
No account managers, no offshore team. You talk to the person doing the work.
Questions
What people ask before the first call.
What does it cost?
Ongoing Google Ads management is a flat monthly fee, from $350 a month for my first five Birmingham clients, and that rate holds as long as you stay. Setting up and fixing your conversion tracking is included. There's a three-month minimum, then it's month to month. A website is a separate, flat project price. No hourly billing, never a percentage of your ad spend, and you get the number before you commit.
Do I keep my Google Ads account?
Yes. Every account stays in your name: Google Ads, analytics, your Google Business Profile and your website. Your ad budget goes on your own card, straight to Google. You add me as a manager, and if we ever part ways, everything stays with you, working.
Can you guarantee results?
No, and be wary of anyone who guarantees rankings, leads or AI mentions. What I can promise is honest numbers: what the ads cost and what they actually produced. Every decision after that runs on them.
What should I ask any marketer before I hire them?
Ask for one number: cost per booked job by channel for last quarter, checked against your own customer list. If all they can show is clicks or “conversions”, they're reporting activity. Keep every account in your own name, and avoid percent-of-spend pricing, because it pays them to spend more of your money.
Do you do social media?
Paid ads on Facebook and Instagram, yes, when they fit the business. They're priced separately from Google Ads. Organic posting, no.
Do you build websites?
Yes. Fast, simple sites for local service businesses, built around a quote or booking form that's tracked from day one. Flat project price, quoted after a 20-minute call.
What areas do you serve?
Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Homewood, Mountain Brook, Trussville, Pelham, Helena, Alabaster, Bessemer, Gardendale, Irondale and the rest of the metro. In person when it helps, otherwise by phone and screen share.
What's the free check?
Send me your website. I'll look at what it reports to Google from the outside: which tracking tags load, whether calls and form fills are set up to be counted, and whether a tap on your phone number fires as a conversion. Settings inside your ad account need access, so that part waits for a call. You get what I find by email, usually within a day.
